Canada: Manufacturing PMI hits three-month high - Markit

"At 54.7, up from 54.4 in November, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit Canada Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index pointed to the strongest improvement in business conditions since September," IHS Markit reported on Tuesday.

Key highlights

The headline index has posted above the 50.0 no-change threshold in each month since March 2016.

Higher levels of incoming new work contributed to a rebound in output growth from the 11-month low seen in November.

Higher levels of employment partly reflected renewed pressures on operating capacity in December.

December data pointed to an increase in purchasing activity across the manufacturing sector.

Greater demand for raw materials continued to exert pressure on supply chains.
