GBP/USD drops 100 pips after Brexit poll puts 'leave' ahead

GBP/USD trimmed  intraday gains and slid back below the 1.47 mark, after a Brexit poll put the ‘leave’ camp slightly ahead, a day before the UK referendum on EU membership.

Latest Opinium poll ahead of the UK referendum shows the ‘leave’ camp ahead with 45% versus 44% for the ‘remain’ and 9% undecided.

GBP/USD pulled back from the 1.4770 zone and hit a session low of 1.4661 as the knee-jerk reaction. However, the pair found support and it was last trading at 1.4695, still 0.32% above its opening price.

GBP/USD technical levels

In terms of technical levels, immediate supports are seen at 1.4641 (Jun 22 low), 1.4615 (Jun 21 low) and 1.4460 (50-day SMA). On the other hand, resistances could be faced at 1.4782 (Jun 21 high), 1.4815 (2016 high, Jan 4) and 1.4848 (Dec 30 2015 high).
